The Indiana University chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity

The Indiana University chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity was established in 1915 when the Wrangler Society, established in 1902, affiliated with the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity. The chapter is one of the oldest and largest chapters of the international fraternity and one of the longest continuously operating fraternity chapters at Indiana University.  The chapter acquired the Gentry homestead at 1200 East Third Street in 1921.  The existing chapter house was built in 1925.

The undergraduate members of the chapter have a governance structure to organize and manage the chapter’s activities and help meet its member’s needs.  In addition to the chapter president, the chapter board has a treasurer, an officer that helps members with academics, an officer that helps assure that members conduct themselves in a safe, lawful manner, an officer for member recruitment and one for training new members, an officer to arrange social activities and one to arrange involvement in sports.  The chapter leadership does not have legal or tax status.

The corporation has two primary staff members.  The plant manager, Brent Stanton, has been with the chapter since 2001 and uses contractors as needed to keep all the structural and mechanical systems of the almost 100 year old house operational.  DU was the first chapter to use a fire fighter in the plant management role and this arrangement is now used by several other IU chapters.  A live-in advisor was required by the university starting in 2017.  This role has been filled since inception by Adrian Zakula (known as “Zuke”) who was originally a graduate student and is now an art teacher in the Bloomington Public Schools.  Both Brent and Zuke are dearly loved by undergraduates and have been initiated into the membership of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.  The corporation may also employ supplemental staff for maintenance, housekeeping, and food service and employs a professional accounting service and a food service company.      Another group of alumni, the team of advisors, pairs an alumni advisor with each of the undergraduate chapter officers to provide oversight, advice, and continuity.  This team was created in 2016 following some university rule violations.  The team was organized and is led by Dan Ladendorf, class of 1983.
