Centennial-Compton Scholarship

The chapter’s centennial in 2015 was celebrated in a variety of ways including a fund raising campaign to establish scholarships for undergraduate member’s outstanding academic achievement.  The highest grade point average (GPA) each semester receives a Centennial Scholarship; all members who tie for the highest ranking receive an award.  Large contributions for or by named alumni are recognized by naming Centennial Scholarships for those alumni.  The amount of these named Centennail Scholarships reflect the amount contributed in honor and recognition of the named alumni.  Scholarship in the name of Bob Compton (1956) and Ronald Peyton (1969) are being awarded.

Robert J. Compton Biography

Robert J. Compton was in the US Army in the Korean War and was a 1956 graduate of the IU School of Business.  He married Mary Jane in 1961; their children, Beth and Charles, are both attorneys. He owned and operated businesses in Terre Haute and Muncie, IN and was a founder, board chair, and CEO of Office Plus, a network of 530 locations in the US and Canada.  In Terre Haute, he was Sec/Treas of the Alliance for Growth & Progress and President of the Vigo County Redevelopment Commission. The Comptons retired to Bloomington in 1996 where Bob held leadership roles with the DU@IU corporation and foundation boards.
